Most Esteemed Participants,
It is our utmost pleasure to welcome you all to the first session of TED Atakent Private High School Model United Nations, which will be taking place between the 28th of November and 1th of December 2019. TEDAMUN Club was established in 2016. Since the beginning, our club’s main purpose has been widening our perspectives and having broad world views as the citizens of modern Turkey which is a legacy of our great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. With the experienced and knowledgeable team blended with enthusiasm, we are honoured to state that TEDAMUN’19 will be a high-quality conference.
In this year we decided to set the theme as “Decode the Millenium”. We will be highlighting the importance of Millenium Goals which have set by the United Nations and all the Government leaders in 2000. The main aims were to eradicate extreme poverty, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability. Considering all these issues, we realise how we accurately choose the theme. The main thing that we aim with this theme, which covers the most of the issues in the world, is to raise awareness together with the participating delegates, search for solutions and to spread our voice to the world as far as we can. We are a few teenagers working hard to make people’s lives better, make our world better and make the millennium better.
In our very first year of TEDAMUN, we will be having three General Assembly committees. General Assembly 1: Disarmament and International Security Committee Delegates are expected to find solutions to two agenda items: “Measures to prevent anti-state actors (terrorists) from acquiring Weapons of Mass Destruction” and “The regulation of use of robots for military activities”, our another General Assembly Committee is General Assembly 3: Social, Humanitarian & Cultural Committee will be dealing with the issues of two agendas: “Promoting journalism and their rights in the middle east” and “Measures to globally abolish all forms of human trafficking”. To continue with our last one, General Assembly 6: Legal Committee, delegates are assigned to focus on two agendas: “The issue of illegal settlements in Palestine” and “The topic of human testing and the extent to which it should be regulated”.
For the special committees by blending our history and future we have tried to select agenda items that may be interesting and attractive to the delegates. Security Council will be dealing with Palestine situation and the influence of ISIS in the middle east. NATO will be resolving the issue of territorial claims in Arctic and dealing with the Russian problem. JCC will be focusing on Waterloo. Lastly, Futuristic European Council will be dealing with Cyprus Pandemic. To sum up, we are pleased with everyone who supported us and will support us in our conference. Without our passion and belief, we could not achieve it. We are honoured to host you all to the first annual session of TED Atakent Private High School Model United Nations as the Secretaries General.
